Water management on Whitefish Chain is topic of July 9 program in Crosslake

Deborah Griffith, head park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Crosslake campground, will present "How High Is the Water, Mama?" from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Crosslake Community Center as the monthly Crosslake Chautauqua Program.

Griffith will explain the task of water management on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. She will discuss the history of the Crosslake dam and the reasons for managing water levels on the lakes and rivers in this part of the Mississippi watershed.

She will clarify who decides to alter water levels in the Pine River reservoir and the science behind these decisions.

The program is free to the public.
