Two Pequot Lakes Patriots will compete in the national speech competition from the comfort of their own homes.
Senior Elena Grove and junior Megan Buffington qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association's National Tournament.
Originally scheduled for this week in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the tournament is now underway in an online setting.
Buffington is competing in US extemporary speaking, while Grove is competing in drama, with poetry being her supplemental category if she doesn't make the top 60 in drama.
Additionally, Patriot speech coach Angie Klein was named Subsection 23 Speech Coach of the Year. This is the third time in six years she has won the award.

“Coach Klein has done an outstanding job with our speech program, growing it both competitively and with increased participation,” Activities Director Marc Helmrichs said.
Grove and Buffington are the first national qualifiers for Pequot Lakes High School. The finals will be streamed live online Saturday, June 20, at speechanddebate.org.
