The Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking comments on a future Highway 371 project near Hackensack. Details are online at

MnDOT is exploring options for work done on Highway 371 between County Road 40 and County Road 5 in Hackensack. Road work isn't scheduled until 2024; however, the department is seeking input from locals. The seven slide study on the website provides information as it stands and asks participants to fill out a survey.

The page reads: "MnDOT is reconstructing Highway 371 between County Rd 40 and County Rd 5 in Hackensack in the next few years. This project will improve the roadway surface, construct new sidewalks and increase safety for all users of Highway 371. It also includes a possible redesign of the Highway 371 and County Highway 5 intersection."

The site says the goal is to improve safety, reduce speed, improve pedestrian and bicycle use, improve drainage systems and reconstruct County Road 5 and Highway 371.

The site does say one goal is not to adversely affect businesses with the new design and another is to include local businesses and economic development in discussion and final design.

Three meetings of an advisory committee have resulted in preliminary design plans that include a three-lane section of road with a center turning lane, curb and gutter drainage, parallel parking and a sidewalk on either side. There is also consideration for a roundabout at the Highway 371/County Road 5 intersection.
