Pine River-Backus (PR-B) Elementary School is pleased to welcome back all of our wonderful staff and students for the 2014-15 school year. We are already busy building young minds and providing our families with a high quality education.

The beginning of each school year always brings great questions from parents, students and even staff. Here are some common questions I often get asked. If you have further questions, or would like additional information, do not hesitate to call the PR-B elementary office at 587-4447.

• How many students are enrolled at PR-B elementary? Currently there are 500 students enrolled in K-6. We have four sections of K-2 classes and three sections of 3-6 classes. We have more than 40 certified staff and 20 paraprofessionals.

• What are our average class sizes this year? Kindergarten, 18; first grade, 19; second grade, 19; third grade, 25; fourth grade, 23; fifth grade, 21; sixth grade, 22.

• When does school begin and end? The elementary school starts at 8:25 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. All afterschool changes must be made no later than2 p.m. Classroom teachers are not authorized to make busing changes. You should always call 587-4447. Thank you for your help with this!

• Does PR-B elementary have a school website? Yes! Check us out at prbschools.org. Click on the tab at the top that says "Parents." Here you will find several helpful parent resources ranging from student handbooks, school calendars, school closings and more!

We also have a school district Facebook page. Be sure to check us out for all sorts of fun happenings, pictures and events at our school.

• PR-B elementary is a PBIS school. What is PBIS?

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.

Our students show Tiger Pride by practicing their ROAR (Responsible, On-Task, Always Safe, Respectful). We recently finished teaching our ROAR expectations in all areas of our school to our students.

Having this building-wide approach to promote positive behaviors is very helpful. Hear our ROAR!

• What type of preschool programming does PR-B elementary offer? PR-B is investing in early childhood programming! We believe that education starts at birth and we love working with families to provide the best experience possible!

Early childhood fall classes run Sept.15-Dec.15. Winter classes are Jan. 12-May 11. Sliding fee scales are available.
