The Pine River-Backus Booster Club, Inc. was incorporated as a nonprofit organization on Dec. 4, 1992. In its 24 years of existence, the organization's mission statement has remained steadfast in supporting the growth and opportunities for Pine River-Backus students through extracurricular activities.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a "booster" as an enthusiastic supporter. Our organization is composed of volunteers who enthusiastically contribute their time and talent to our club. The current membership includes Lori Adkins, Robin and Kim Anderson, Amy Barchus, Chuck and Jan Brasel, Wanda Carlson, Liz Dahl, Mike and Jenny Gravdahl, Nicole Hirschey, Anne Holm, Caryn Johnson, Gretchen Koering, Shelly Netland, Erica Norman, Dawn Rubner, Paul Sasse, Troy Staples and Cy and Lisa Struss.

Our organization is always looking for new members. To become a member is easy. You have to commit to make four meetings and/or four volunteer activities in a year. We meet the first Monday of each month in the Odyssey Lab at Pine River-Backus Elementary School.

Many of you are familiar with our Ice Castle Fish House Raffle or our annual golf tournament at Black Bear. These two events are our primary fundraisers, which are supplemented by clothing sales, malt sales, split the pot and other halftime games at sporting events.

It should be noted that 100 percent of the funds raised are invested wisely in the academic and athletic endeavors of our students in grades K-12 at Pine River-Backus Schools.

In the past 12 months, we invested $18,404.44. These funds benefited the band; yearbook staff; girls basketball, girls softball and boys baseball facilities; summer volleyball; Business Professionals of America; trap shooting; dance team; boys basketball; robotics; and girls and boys elementary basketball.

In addition, at the beginning of this school year, the booster club donated to each of the school's 16 organizational accounts.

As you read this article, we encourage each of you to support our kids at PR-B by attending their events. It won't take you long to become an "enthusiastic supporter."

Proud to be PR-B!
