The Pine River-Backus varsity speech team placed sixth Saturday, Feb. 7, at Blackduck, with two-third of the team earning awards.

Katey Hanson took home a silver medal for the poem she wrote about growing up with disabilities.

Claudina Williams earned a blue ribbon for her informative speech on dreams.

Sam Maurer won a blue ribbon for her humorous take on Camp Sunshine.

Emma Armstrong and Zack Munsch received a blue ribbon for the duo interpretation of "The Censored Play."

Melissa Meek took home a red ribbon for her humorous take on "Beauty and the Beast."

Troy Fetter competed in Prose and Tia Ford and Judy Reed competed in Duo.
