DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Excessive speed was likely the cause of a rollover that killed a rural Vergas man Thursday morning, according to Becker County sheriff's Sgt. Shane Richards.

Kevin James Evans, 57, was driving a minivan north on Becker County Road 17 about 8 a.m. when he apparently lost control on a curve, Richards said. The van rolled several times and ended up about 150 yards into a field, where it caught fire.

Richards said Evans was ejected as the vehicle rolled and died at the scene. Emergency personnel searched the field but found no passengers.
