Rock receives 'Up and Coming Star' award in speech

The Pequot Lakes High School varsity speech team competed Feb. 28 in the Bemidji Lumberjack Tournament, where Courtney Rock received the "Up and Coming Star" award for novice.

The Pequot Lakes High School varsity speech team competed Feb. 28 in the Bemidji Lumberjack Tournament, where Courtney Rock received the "Up and Coming Star" award for novice.

Katie Northenscold, Emma Fitch, Emily Espeseth, Allie Miller and Rock received ribbons of excellence:

Miller placed eighth in Creative Expression; William Moe was seventh in Humorous; and Northenscold took sixth in Drama.

At the Walker Speech Tournament on March 7, Michelle Mink, Rock, Miller and Espeseth received ribbons of excellence.

Moe took second in the Humor Honor Final; and Miller placed second in Creative Expression.

The team competed last weekend in Brainerd for the Northern Lights District National Qualifying Tournament.

Junior high speech team

At the Pequot Lakes Tournament on Feb. 24, Miller and Espeseth placed second in Duo; Miller placed first in Creative Expression; Cass Rock took fifth in Humor; Moe earned first in Humor; and Courtney Rock was second in Prose.

At the Cass Lake-Bena Junior High Tournament on March 3, results were: Savannah Ellison, seventh in Discussion; Tyler Flowers and Naarah Neumann, first in Duo; Allison Francis, fifth in Extemporaneous Reading; Abigael Luchka-Hughs, fifth in Humor; Moe, first in Humor; Hannah Allen, fourth in poetry; Courtney Rock, second in Prose; and Miller, first in Creative Expression.

The final junior high tournament for the season was March 17 in Walker.v
