Filing for city, township, and school board positions officially opened in Minnesota on Tuesday, July 29.
In the city of Crosslake, two residents have filed for mayor: the current mayor, Darrell Schneider, and Council Member Steve Roe. This means Crosslake will have at least one new council member, as Roe's seat is up for election this November.
Three candidates have filed for positions on the Pine River-Backus School Board. Richie Bean, whose address is Pequot Lakes, and Lee Aimers, with a Backus address, each filed to fill one of the four-year terms currently held by Leslie Bouchonville, Katy Botz, Garny Gaffey and Sandra Poferl. Michael Griep, with a Pine River address, filed for the two-year position currently held by Jason Marcum.
No other area cities or school boards reported candidate filings as of July 29, although filing will remain open until Aug. 12.
