Fieldstone walls are being rebuilt at the Nisswa pedestrian tunnel site after the walls along the ramp recently collapsed. That led to the tunnel site being closed.
Nisswa City Planner Loren Wickham said when the landscaper started doing work, the fieldstone walls collapsed. After a meeting that included the city, engineering firm, contractors and the Minnesota Department of Transportation, work began Monday, June 30, to rebuild the walls.
The city won't pay for the work to be redone; it is the responsibility of the contractor and subcontractor.
The steps and tunnel will reopen; the issue is contained to the ramp.
