The Pine River-Backus School Board approved the preliminary 2020-2021 budget Monday, June 22.

The district's $500,000 construction bond accounts for the most significant change to the budget, appearing as deficit spending in the budget worksheets Business Manager Jolene Bengtson presented.

The budget includes $12,660,543 in revenue and $13,190,609 in expenses. In an email, Bengtson explained that the revenue for the bond is being received as revenue in the 2019-2020 school year with expenses booked in 2020-2021, thus explaining the appearance of deficit spending.

The district is otherwise expecting increases in: general fund revenues by $470,523 (5%) from the revised budget figures, state revenues in the amount of $371,450, aid revenue in the amount of $310,023, special education aid in the amount of $51,670 and compensatory funds in the amount of $127,446.

The aid revenue increased due to projected enrollment numbers for the 2020-2021 school year. Per pupil unit funding also increased from $6,438 to $6,567.
