In the 20 years that the Pine River-Backus Family Center has been open, it has become the hub of community activity.

The services and programs offered are tailored to meet our ever-changing social environment and the unique challenges identified in the Pine River and Backus communities.

The evolving vision of the Pine River-Backus Family Center is that all families have what they need to reach their full potential and contribute to their community.

In 1994, the Pine River and Backus communities organized a task force group called "Project for Teens" to address the escalating teen pregnancy problem. The group started with a grant from the Initiative Foundation of Little Falls.

One of the task force's goals was to establish a community-based family center. At the same time, the Cass County/Leech Lake Reservation Children's Initiative was working to establish local family centers with the purpose of helping communities build strong families.

The results was the establishment of five family centers in Cass County, including the Pine River-Backus Family Center, a 501c3 public charity.

The Pine River-Backus Family Center receives some funding for specific programs from Cass County and through grants, but it also depends on the kindness of our friends who work and live in our communities.

A healthy community is an asset for everyone who loves living the small town life in Pine River and Backus. Please show your appreciation for the Pine River-Backus Family Center's role in your community. Donations can be sent in honor of our 20th anniversary to Pine River-Backus Family Center, P.O.
