Pine River residents Kathy Soukup and her son, Joel Soukup, authors of "Standing Tall on One Leg" (WestBow Press, 2013), recently appeared on Utah's Studio 5, KSl Channel 5 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Soukups were interviewed about their journey while dealing with cancer, it's after effects, as well their co-written book "Standing Tall on One Leg."

The book journeys through 10 years of their lives as Joel receives a cancer diagnosis at age 16 and a recurrent tumor at age 20. The book is written from Kathy's perspective as a mother of a child with a cancer diagnosis, and also from Joel's perspective as a teenager receiving the diagnosis.

The words of each are woven together throughout the story as they share their journey from receiving the life-threatening diagnosis and subsequent treatments to the surgery in which Joel's entire right leg and pelvis need to be amputated to save his life.
