Pequot Lakes mock trial team tops Apollo

The Pequot Lakes mock trial team won its first round of competition with a score of 219-211 against St. Cloud Apollo High School on Friday, Jan. 10, at the Crow Wing County Courthouse.

This year’s team consists of returning freshmen Kiley Newton, Dana Hammer and Lucas Taylor and returning middle-level student Angie Doughty.

New to the team this year are Emma Bitzer, Alessandra Hartwig, Zoe Huber, Corissa Kerger, Samantha McMahon, Caitelyn Moser, Ashley Niemczycki, Lillian Palmer, Amelia Pederson, Lake Rowland, Paige Strong and Levi Toftness.

Newton won the Outstanding Attorney Certificate and Palmer won the Outstanding Witness Certificate. These awards are selected by the opposing counsel.

The next competition is Friday, Jan. 17, against Brainerd High School at Milaca. The coaches for this team are Susan Mathison-Young and R. Clay Porter, attorney at law.
