The Pequot Lakes City Council learned Tuesday, July 6, that firefighter Larry Oaks resigned after almost 30 years with the city.
Firefighters had 10 calls in June, including a grass fire in Breezy Point, two grass fires in Jenkins Township, a grass fire in Poplar Township and a mutual aid garage fire in Nisswa.
Police had 335 calls in May.

In other business July 6, the council:
Heard from Raymond Kuntz, of the Evergreen Townhome Association, off County Road 107, seeking streetlights on Evergreen Point Road for safety and security reasons. The council will seek information from Crow Wing County and Minnesota Power regarding costs and maintenance.
Approved the preliminary plat of Hunter Ridge with conditions. John Hunter proposes to subdivide 31.36 acres of property at the northeast corner of the Akerson Road/Evenson Road intersection into three residential lots.
Received information on and discussed possible remedies to water line freezing on Isabelle Drive with rough cost estimates. The council agreed to pursue a solution that could cost an estimated $15,000 per home, with two homes included. The council also agreed to pay a couple with a home on Isabelle Drive $4,000 due to damage their home sustained from a leaking meter that was reinstalled improperly.
Accepted donations, including $400 from Community Action of Pequot Lakes for a new swing set in Gildner Park.
Cited safety reasons to block the parking lot on the north end of Trailside Park, where trucks delivering to Builders FirstSource pull into so they can back into the Builders FirstSource yard. That company could pursue a different driveway approach.
Tabled a proposed ordinance amendment to remove the water disconnect policy and instead certify costs due from people who don’t pay their bill to their taxes.
Approved paying $11,600 for a future study of possible improvements to Main and Front streets. The study would consider Main Street from the west ramp roundabout off Highway 371 west to Front Street, and to Front Street from Main Street north to Patriot Avenue.
Approved an annual planning and zoning services contract with Sourcewell at $55 per hour.
Appointed Matthew Lottman, of Pine River and OEM Manufacturing, to the Economic Development Commission through Dec. 31 to fill Chris Lindholm’s term.
Approved a bid of $7,340 from JR’s Painting and Prefinishing Inc. to stain the exterior of the library.
Set a budget work session for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 27.
