Pine River-Backus High School senior Spencer Richards has been accepted to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he was awarded the Achievement Award.

College of St. Benedict

Haylie Murphey, the daughter of Sarah Murphey and Brandon Bahr, of Pequot Lakes, was named to the fall semester dean's list at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph. She is a junior computer science major.

The following local students were named to the fall semester dean's list at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities: Joseph Villano, Backus, freshman, College of Liberal Arts; Mackenzie Dale, Breezy Point, junior, College of Education/Human Development; Kylie Halverson, Lake Shore, sophomore, College of Liberal Arts; Claire Gunsbury, Nisswa, non-degree, College of Continuing Education; Abigail Iverson, Nisswa, senior, College of Biological Sciences; Emmalee Mayer, Nisswa, freshman, College of Liberal Arts; Taylor Ohotto, Nisswa, senior, School of Nursing; Haley-Rose Severson, Nisswa, senior, College of Liberal Arts; Josh Gudahl, Pequot Lakes, senior, College of Liberal Arts; and Kevin Beltz, Pine River, senior, Carlson School of Management.

Bemidji State University

Elizabeth Thurlow, Nisswa, a senior, was one of 54 students formally accepted into Bemidji State University's Department of Nursing during an induction ceremony held Feb. 18. During the scholarship and induction ceremony, new student nurses had name tags ceremonially affixed to their lab coats to officially mark their transition into the study of professional nursing. The ceremony included remarks from Caroline Rasinski, a senior from Nisswa who is president of BSU's Student Nurses Association.
