EAST GULL LAKE — Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on Friday, June 17,, at 4:08 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a boat incident involving injury at a residence on Gull Lake in East Gull Lake.

Deputies and responders arrived and learned that a pontoon was attempting to dock when a mechanical failure caused the pontoon to accelerate into the dock.

A female passenger, age 37, attempted to stop the watercraft from hitting the dock by sitting down and putting her feet out to stop it. She was unable to stop the watercraft and her feet slid under the front of the pontoon causing her legs to be pinched between the dock and the watercraft.

The female was treated on scene for injuries and later transported via helicopter to a Twin Cities area hospital.

Assisting on scene were North Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Pineandlakes Echo Journal." Often, the "Pineandlakes Echo Journal" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
