PEQUOT LAKES — Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts and Pequot Lakes Community Theater will hold a free event where participants can serve the part of a theater critic.

A scripted reading of "Love or Best Offer," by Phil Olson, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.

Over the years, Pequot Lakes Community Theatre has done scripted readings of three Olson plays that were in development. He appreciates the feedback Pequot Lakes audiences supply during his writing process, so he requested the community's help once again with "Love or Best Offer."

Actors read the script and audience members are invited to give feedback in real time to the playwright on what they feel did and didn't work for the show. "Love or Best Offer" is a comedic love story set in modern times. Online dating goes haywire and love and friendships are challenged.

A Minnesota native, Olson currently lives in Los Angeles where he writes and produces plays. He has written 18 published plays that have had over 400 productions in seven countries around the world. Twelve of his plays are published by Samuel French/Concord Theatricals, including: "Birthday Club," "A Twisted Christmas Carol," "Mom's Gift," "Don't Hug Me," "A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol," "A Don't Hug Me County Fair," "Don't Hug Me I'm Pregnant," "Don't Hug Me, We're Married," "Don't Hug Me, We're Family," "Polyester The Musical," "A Nice Family Gathering" and "A Nice Family Christmas."

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Pineandlakes Echo Journal." Often, the "Pineandlakes Echo Journal" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
