Pine River-Backus School Board hires coaches, teaching positions

Three policies regarding weapons in school, student attendance and activities approved

PINE RIVER — In its Monday, July 11, meeting, the Pine River-Backus School Board conducted its third reading of three revised school policies, then voted unanimously to approve those policies.

The revisions pertain to the school district's policies regarding weapons in school, student attendance and activities.

As a part of its consent calendar, the board approved the hiring of head football coach Tom DeMars, assistant football coaches Rob Johnson, Mike Dinnel and Nathan Fischer, junior high football coaches Mike Lupella and Mark Gonnion, head volleyball coach Josh Hirschey, assistant volleyball coaches Liz Dahl and Ben Kinser, junior high volleyball coaches Leah Freeman and Chelsea Eveland.

The board also agreed to hire school nurse Darla John, youth and family services worker Olivia Becker, special education teachers Diondra Gottsch and Andrew Moore, industrial technology teacher Neil Travis, English/language arts teacher Gregory Gentry and junior high science teacher Deborah Schlueter.
