Pequot Lakes speech team places third at sections

Four Patriot speakers qualified for state

PEQUOT LAKES — The Pequot Lakes High School speech team finished third as a team at the section meet in Perham on Saturday, April 9, and had four individuals qualify for the state meet.

State qualifiers for the Patriots are Olivia Armstrong, Veronica Broskovetz, Steve Maschhoff and Tabitha Kibwaa.

Placing for the Patriots were:

  • Discussion: Broskovetz, first; Hunter Johnson, sixth.
  • Poetry: Armstrong, first. 
  • Drama: Kibwaa, second. 
  • Extemporaneous speaking: Maschhoff, second; Ryan Fritz, fourth. 
  • Extemporaneous reading: Sonja Palmer, sixth. 
  • Great speeches: Emma Johnson, sixth.

The Perham speech team claimed the section title, while Staples-Motley earned runner-up honors.
