PEQUOT LAKES — The Pequot Lakes Area Historical Society invites residents to attend monthly meetings the first Thursday of every month from May through October.

The society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Cole Memorial Building.

Residents are welcome to attend and contribute their ideas and observations. The historical society hopes the public is interested in this group and in the work it does to preserve local history.

At the annual meeting in January, the historical society board elected new officers. The historical society will mark its 25th anniversary this year and plans an open house in the summer to celebrate this milestone. The society will again have a float in the July 4 parade.

Other items on the agenda in the next six months and beyond include upgrading display spaces in the museum, hatching new approaches to member recruitment and increasing the group's visibility and contribution to life in Pequot Lakes.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Pineandlakes Echo Journal." Often, the "Pineandlakes Echo Journal" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
