CROSSLAKE — The Northern Minnesota Railroad Heritage Association held a Founder's Day Celebration on Thursday, Aug. 11, on three pontoon boats on Cross Lake.
They celebrated 16 years as an organization and recognized Darlene Blazina as their founder in 2006.
The club has 52 senior members who display their model trains and layouts to the public in their location on County Road 66 in Crosslake. They were located south of town on County Road 3 from 2017-18, when they moved to the new location.
In 2018, a fire destroyed the County Road 66 facility and most of their layouts and model trains, so a new depot-style facility was built in the same location, and the members have been rebuilding their layouts since 2019.
The NMRHA club currently displays G Scale, O Scale and HO Scale layouts, and there is a train that children can operate. They are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays year-round, and from 3-6 p.m. Wednesdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

A 1/10 model of the Wm Crooks Steam Engine sits outdoors behind the club and is a great photo op for kids and families.
