  • Hometown: I grew up in White Bear Lake.
  • Past teaching experience/education: I went to college at Mankato for two years, then graduated from the University of Minnesota with my teaching degree in 2001.

I raised two kids in Cottage Grove while starting my teaching career in New Prague, where I taught high school agriculture, advised the FFA and was the head girls hockey coach.
I then added a science certificate to my teaching license and began teaching eighth grade science in St. Paul for five years.

Most recently, the past five years I taught sixth grade AVID and science, eighth grade science, and seventh and eighth grade STEM at Oltman Middle School in Cottage Grove, all while coaching the boys junior varsity hockey team for Woodbury over the past 15 years.

  • What grade level and/or subject will you be teaching? This summer we sold our house and moved north to the family cabin on Ponto Lake after being hired at Pequot Lakes High School, where I will be teaching earth science, Minnesota Wildlife, Science in Action, and ninth grade chemistry. In addition, I am the head varsity girls hockey coach (Northern Lakes Lightning).
  • Interests and hobbies: Other interests I have are hunting and fishing, water skiing, and watching the sun set on the lake from my deck!
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Pineandlakes Echo Journal." Often, the "Pineandlakes Echo Journal" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
