PEQUOT LAKES — It was indeed wonderful. Over a hundred kids read books and learned great things about Minnesota (this year’s theme) and attended programs given by various people and organizations as part of the Kids Summer Reading Program.

We give profuse thanks to all who helped. Our main lady in charge of kids’ activities, Terri Grimes (the kids know her as Miss Terri), is owed a million thanks for all she does. So thanks, Terri, a million times over!

We also thank anyone who donated money for the cause and gave of their time. Pelican Lakes Conservation Club and Loon Lake Township both gave us very generous financial support for the summer reading program for which we give many thanks.

Notes about this and that

  • We truly appreciate our patrons and volunteers. Thank you for everything you do. Special thanks to Asher Abas of Pequot Lakes SuperAmerica for his support of the library’s popcorn wagon throughout the summer. You’re greatly appreciated.
  • September through the end of November our rotating art will feature Lorraine Northagen, from Crosslake, with her photographic art. The display is titled "Nature's Gold" (as you will see in the colors she chose to exhibit).
  • We have a display of children’s books from and about different countries that you might enjoy seeing.
  • Remember, our preschool story hour is at 11 a.m. every Wednesday morning.
  • Be sure to check our website for information about newly purchased books and things going on in the library. You may also log onto our catalog at the website.
  • We have a great Facebook page where you can “like” us and find out lots of interesting library information.
  • We have a “reading machine” to give away for someone who needs help with reading. It’s an Aladdin Classic Telesensory machine that is about the size of a typewriter and is lightweight so would be easy to pick up here at the library. If you or someone you know could use this, come in and have a look. It is free for the taking.

Dates to note

  • Thursday, Sept. 1, 10:30 a.m.: First Thursday Book Club meeting at the library. The book to be discussed is “Northanger Abbey,” by Jane Austen. October’s book will be “Whiskey Rebels,” by David Liss. The book club is open to anyone interested. There’s no need to call ahead.
