Land & Waters Preservation Trust announces 2021 grant fund opportunity

Applicants may be lake associations, local units of government or environmental groups.

Land & Waters Preservation Trust Endowment will award $20,00 in grants to worthy projects in April 2021.

Land & Waters, administered by the Initiative Foundation, is a joint endowment of the Whitefish Area Property Owners Association and the Pine River Watershed Alliance.

The grant application submission period runs Dec. 1, 2020 through March 1, 2021.

Land & Waters may request more information with a deadline of March 15, 2021. Grants will be made April 1, 2021, and projects should be completed in 2021. Project grants will be made for proposals from 501(c)(3) organizations that fit one or more of the following priorities:

  • Enhance and protect surface and aquifer water quality in the Pine River Watershed.
  • Support sustainable riparian land management practices.
  • Protect habitat for native plants and animals.

Applicants may be lake associations, local units of government or environmental groups. Projects proposed by the two parent organizations, WAPOA and PRWA, will also be considered.

Land & Waters Preservation Trust was created by WAPOA and the PRWA and is a Turn Key Fund of the Initiative Foundation. Land & Waters Preservation Trust is a grant making endowment fund directed to preserving and protecting the water quality in the Pine River Watershed. Nancy Vogt is editor of the Pineandlakes Echo Journal, a weekly newspaper that covers eight communities in the Pequot Lakes-Pine River areas - from Nisswa to Hackensack and Pequot Lakes to Crosslake.

She started as editor of the Lake Country Echo in July 2006, and continued in that role when the Lake Country Echo and the Pine River Journal combined in September 2013 to become the Pineandlakes Echo Journal. She worked for the Brainerd Dispatch from 1992-2006 in various roles.

She covers Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Lake Shore and Crosslake city councils, as well as writes feature stories, news stories and personal columns (Vogt's Notes). She also takes photos at community events.
