In a regular meeting that wrapped up in just under 15 minutes Monday, May 24, the Lake Shore City Council learned construction is starting on 4.1 miles of Trail 77 in Fairview Township, from Woods Drive to Hunters Ridge Trail.
According to the township’s website, the township submitted a $2 million grant application to the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources to finish the last 3.7 miles of the trail next year.
The website says that in April, the Fairview Town Board accepted a bid of $1,458,982.70 from Gladen Construction in LaPorte to construct the first 4.1 miles of trail.
The township portion of the Gull Lake Trail is 7.8 miles along the west side of County Road 77, from Woods Drive to the south to Sandy Point Road to the north.
Planning work continues on the final part of the trail project in Lake Shore.

In other business Monday, the council:
Learned police reported 80 incidents in April, including 56 traffic-related incidents and 24 miscellaneous calls. Incidents included 45 traffic warnings, four traffic citations, three suspicious activity calls and two property damage complaints.
Learned Lake Shore will receive nearly $100,000 in pandemic recovery funds to use by 2024 or to contract to use before 2026.
Learned the city issued 12 land-use permits in April for a total valuation of $1,687,800, including one commercial project by John Allen on Interlachen Road. Year-to-date valuation totals $3,411,300.
Accepted a quote for $3,781 from Outdoor Specialties LLC in Pine River for 2021 road crack sealing; and accepted a quote for $12,375 from Anderson Brothers Construction for polypatch for Neimi Circe, though the council agreed to reach out to Outdoor Specialties to see if that business could do the project for less money.
Learned Police Chief Steve Sundstrom had a successful annual review.
