In September 2014, Kohls traveled with his friend, Bob Fitzsimmons, to Kaktovik, the only village in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge. He was on a mission to photograph polar bears as they wait for the ice to form to hunt seals.

Kohls has been a staff photographer at the Brainerd Dispatch for 40 years and an adjunct instructor in photography at Central Lakes College for 20 years.

The "Polar Bear Adventure" program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. This program is sponsored by the Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society. For information, contact Pam Perry at pkperry@brainerd.net .
