The Initiative Foundation is now accepting applications from central Minnesota 501(c) nonprofits, schools and government agencies interested in hosting an August 2015-16 AmeriCorps VISTA member.

In partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Initiative Foundation will place 16-18 VISTA members in organizations serving Benton, Cass, Crow Wing, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wadena or Wright counties.

VISTA is a national service program likened to a domestic Peace Corps. VISTA members serve full time for a year doing anti-poverty, capacity-building work at selected host sites. To enable their service, VISTA members receive a modest monthly living allowance, healthcare allowance, child care assistance, if eligible, professional training and an end-of-service cash award of $1,500 or an education award of $5,730.

Host site applications are due Feb. 4. Sites will be selected based on their ability to support and direct a VISTA member, the expected impact of the project and the project's alignment with the program's 2015-16 priority focus areas.

The VISTA Host Site Request for Applications, including requirements of host sites, financial obligations, site selection criteria and application form, can be found under the "Resources" tab at ifound.org/Community/VISTA.
