MOORHEAD, Minn. -- A Moorhead junior hockey player has been released on his own personal recognizance in a case in which he and another hockey player allegedly taped sex with an underage girl, then distributed it.
Thomas Ryan Carey, 19, appeared Thursday in Clay County District Court on one count of use of a minor in a sexual performance, one count of possession and one count of distribution of child pornography, all felonies.
Court documents say Carey and another player with the Lincoln All-Stars of the United States Hockey League taped Carey having sex with the girl in their hotel room after a game in Fargo on Feb. 14.
The girl later told police she began to receive messages making reference to the video.
Part of the terms of Carey's release set Thursday by Judge Steven Cahill prohibit him from having contact with the victim, who was 15 when she was allegedly taped.

Carey's attorney, Bruce Quick, said Carey plans to fight the charges vigorously.
The other hockey player in the case, Brandon Smith, 19, of Nebraska, appears in court July 29.
