Hackensack Legion to host flag retirement, veteran recognition events

Hackensack American Legion Post 202 will host a flag retirement ceremony and veteran recognition event Saturday, June 6.

Bring any American flags that are no longer serviceable to the Hackensack American Legion to be disposed of properly. At 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, the American Legion will conduct a flag retirement ceremony in the Hackensack City Park where American flags as well as any POW-MIA flags can be retired properly.

The ceremony will be conducted by the Legion, Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion. The Legion Riders will also be in attendance.

Following the ceremony, a veteran recognition party will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Hackensack American Legion to honor all veterans of military service and longtime Post 202 members. At 4 p.m., all veterans in attendance will be recognized by branch of service: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard.

All area veterans and their families are invited to attend. A meal will be served and all veterans will be eligible for prize drawings.

Those who attend may wear any part of their uniform.
