The event is the annual championship regatta for this one design boat for ILYA. Many other smaller regattas are held prior to this around the Midwest for these sailors.
ILYA has been hosting this event more than 50 years and it is hosted by other Midwest member yacht clubs on a rotating basis. Many of the ILYA sailors at this event go on to race collegiately and some in the Olympics. The Gull Lake Yacht Club hosted this last in 2009 with more than 100 boats and 400 attendees.
