With the Pequot Lakes School Board meeting on Monday, July 20, came the announcement that longtime board member Mike Erholtz is resigning from his position, effective at the end of the meeting.
The 12-year veteran of the board moved to Lake Shore, just outside of the school district.
“It has been a good run,” Erholtz said. “Unfortunately, we have picked a place to live that is outside the district. It is a new beginning for us, and it will be good. I think I will miss this more than it will miss me … It has been an experience I will cherish for the rest of my days.”
Since joining the board in 2008, Erholtz has served on a number of committees - including the negotiations team for the district - and had served as board chair from 2015 to 2019.
Board members shared words of praise and well wishes for Erholtz during the meeting.
“I have enjoyed every moment we have been here, and I am going to miss you,” fellow board member Curt Johnson said. “It has been a real pleasure. You have given this district an unbelievable amount of time, effort, blood, sweat and tears.”
Erholtz’s term was set to expire in December.
“Whoever files this fall, I hope that they can look at the big picture and consider the fact that we are here for 1,850 reasons.”
