During the regular meeting Monday, March 16, the Pequot Lakes School Board voted unanimously to add one full-time teaching position for the next school year.

This position calls for a health/physical education teacher who would serve all three schools - the high school in the morning, the middle school around midday and Eagle View Elementary School in the afternoon.

In other action Monday, the board:

  • Conducted first readings of policy changes regarding unpaid meal charges and service animals in schools. The board will conduct two more readings of these policies before taking action on the changes.

  • Agreed to the non-renewal of the probationary contract for middle school counselor Christina Kavanaugh, effective at the end of the school year.

  • Accepted 11 donations to the district totaling $12,538.65, along with six donations to the student activity fund account totaling $5,500.

As part of the consent agenda, the board accepted the resignation of paraprofessional Angela Helmer and business education teacher Dawn Kaelke, along with an extended leave for elementary school teacher Kari Norton.

The board also approved the hiring of activities director/assistant principal Byron Westrich, speech-language pathologist Kayla Satterlund, high school science teacher Joshua Borchardt, middle school special education teacher Luke Friedrich, high school English/language arts teacher Anne Lauer, high school guidance counselor Tracy Tschida, assistant boys track coach Brain Homan and middle level track coach Desera Engholm.
