The Pine River City Council reviewed a request for assistance from Steve Hansen with the Pine River Public Library pertaining to repaving of the parking lot outside the library.

Hansen had suggested the city might do the work at the same time as the planned 2020 street project. Public Works Director Mike Hansen informed the council that the city's street replacement plan does not incorporate plans for public parking lot replacement.

Mike Hansen said the city does not stand to save much by including the parking lot in the 2020 plan. In the past there has been some disagreement on how much of a cost share the city has when it comes to maintaining the parking lot outside of the public library.

The council will have to review the condition of this and other public parking lots and determine the proper course of action.

In other business Tuesday, Nov. 12, the council:

  • Approved purchase of new Christmas lights for 14 light poles along Barclay Avenue. The Pine River Chamber of Commerce has funded the replacement of old lights through fundraising efforts. The city agreed to share part of the cost for the light replacement.
  • Scheduled a conditional use permit meeting for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, ahead of the regular council meeting, for Tru BDM Genetics, a company that is seeking to buy the former ALCO building.
  • Approved business license renewals for Tradesman, Holiday Stationstore, Barstock Liquors, Waste Partners, Pequot Lakes Sanitation and Community Bowl and Pizzeria.
  • Received only one request for qualification for the Norway Lake Dam Project from Bolton & Menk engineering firm.
