The Pequot Lakes School District has purchased a piece of land for $19,000.

The school board approved a purchase agreement Monday, Oct. 21, for a 90-foot parcel east of the district’s bus garage in the Pequot Lakes industrial park.

Superintendent Chris Lindholm called the purchase “a good move.”

“It is just a sliver of property … and it is part of a plan to mitigate a storm water ‘lake’ that we have behind the bus garage, so our bus drivers don’t have to wade through a foot of water to get to the bus. That is why we are purchasing this property,” he said.

In other action Monday, the board:

  • Unanimously approved a resolution supporting the district’s application to the Minnesota State High School League for a Form A grant to offset student activity fees. The board does this on a regular basis.

  • Approved a memorandum of understanding establishing an auditorium and technology manager position. The individual hired in this position will also serve as tech director for the Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts and school district productions. The job will be posted following approval by Education Minnesota Pequot Lakes.

  • Accepted 19 donations to the district valued at $25,252, along with four donations to the student activity fund totalling $3,125.

As part of its consent agenda, the board approved the resignation of prom adviser Casey Johnson, assistant dance coach Madison Watson, middle level track coach Melissa Chaney, middle level boys basketball coach Bill Magnuson and bus driver Mark Peppel, along with leaves of absence for paraprofessional Nancy Peterson-Lazerine and Eagle View teacher Kathy Saxvold.

The board approved the hiring of Katrina Moody as a middle level volleyball coach, Haley Richards as prom adviser, Melissa Shepherd as an Eagle View teacher-interventionist, Hailey Graves as a second grade teacher, Chloe Deutsch as an assistant girls hockey coach, and Jennifer Fuchs and Ashley Brown as Eagle View paraprofessionals.
