Firefighters from Pillager Area Fire and Rescue battled a shop fire in East Gull Lake, but the building was a total loss, according to Fire Chief Greg Ringler.
“We were paged out for a fully involved structure fire,” Ringler said of the fire department vehicles that arrived on scene at about 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
The owners of the nearby home on Poplar Drive, their daughter and their pets were inside their residence when firefighters responded to their shop fire.
“The shop, I think, was being used for business. It wasn’t like a working shop, I don’t think,” Ringler said. “The shop was separated from the home.”
Firefighters cleared the scene about noon, according to Ringler, and there were no injuries involved with the fire, but he estimated the damages to be about $500,000.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal is investigating, but Ringler said nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.
“They’re just trying to find the cause,” Ringler said of the investigation.
