Fire destroyed portions of a cabinetry business Saturday, Dec. 5, in Merrifield.

The Nisswa Fire Department was paged to respond to the blaze at 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke rising from the roof of Alder Creek Custom Cabinets, 21978 County Highway 3, near the intersection with County Road 127.

About 20 Nisswa firefighters responded to the scene, according to Nisswa Fire Chief Shawn Bailey, along with those from Brainerd and Mission Township departments providing mutual aid. Bailey estimated two-thirds of the shop area of the business burned.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no firefighters suffered injuries.

Bailey said the cause of the fire is unknown but it’s been ruled accidental by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.
