Ellison first in discussion at Detroit Lakes speech meet

The Pequot Lakes High School speech team finished fourth in the Detroit Lakes Speech Tournament on Saturday, March 11.

Capturing the team sweepstakes was the team from Thief River Falls followed by Fergus Falls, Beckenridge, Pequot Lakes and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

This year's tournament saw 28 teams competing.

Placing for the Patriots were: Savannah Ellison, first in discussion; Zach Bauer, second in great speeches; Katie Maschhoff, third in great speeches; Courtney Rock, third in prose; Sydney Ellison, fourth in oratory; Allie Miller and William Moe, sixth in duo; Mollie Pierson, seventh in discussion; Miller, seventh in humor; Addie Pierson, seventh in informative; Moe, seventh in storytelling; Austin Evenson, 11th in drama; Megan Buffington and Rock, 14th in duo; Elena Grove, 14th in extemporaneous reading.

Pequot Lakes will travel to Brainerd on March 17 and 18 for the National Speech and Debate Association national qualifier.
