Tuesday, Sept. 7 marked the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year for most of the school districts in Minnesota. The Pine River-Backus Schools welcomed around 900 students back to a full, in-person, five days a week schedule. Younger students were greeted by members of the Tigers Football Team, Volleyball Team and Cross-Country Team that lined the sidewalk as they exited the buses. The players welcomed them with high fives as they made their walk into the school. The look on the elementary students' faces was priceless. The warm greeting added so much to the celebration of the new year. This was organized by the students of the High School Student Council.
Pine River-Backus Schools didn’t just have students to welcome this year, PRB also welcomed 18 new employees (10 teachers, three paraprofessionals, one behavior management specialist, one custodian, one secretary, one cook and one bus driver) to the Tiger family. The new Tigers are coming from all over the state and country, including Prior Lake, Red Wing, Elk River and even California to name just a few. The students in Tiger Country will benefit from the experience and expertise they bring.
As the week continued so did the relationship building. Kindergarten students couldn’t wait to share the excitement of what they were learning and experiencing. Seventh grade students felt the growth of becoming part of the high school community. Senior high students recognized their role as school leaders and role models. All of this took place while teachers and school staff guided them back to the routine of all day, in-person learning.
Pine River-Backus Schools recognizes there is a long way to go with this journey until the last day of school. With the help from students, staff, families and community we will continue to build on this excitement and provide the best and safest education possible.
