Nisswa Elementary School fourth-graders gathered in the school library Thursday, Oct. 10, to hear from members of the Nisswa American Legion about how to properly care for the American flag and what Old Glory symbolizes.

Legion members Paul Edwards and Roger Taylor showed a video discussing what the flag means to citizens and military members before discussing where a flag should be located, how to properly display it, how to fold it and when to replace one.

Near the end of the presentation, students got into small groups and had a chance to fold a flag. They also received a flag of their own.

Due to inclement weather, students could not be shown how to properly dispose of a torn or faded flags.
