Pequot Lakes Community Education offers the following classes. Pre-registration is required for all classes. Those interested should contact Pequot Lakes Community Education at 218-568-9200 or register online at www.isd186.org and click on "Community Education."
• Nature Explorers Camp: 1-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 17-21, Eagle View Elementary School Room 154. Fee: $45.
This camp will give students time to explore nature. Each day will focus on a different aspect of nature (day 1, trees; day 2, plants; day 3, animals; day 4, insects and rocks; day 5, scavenger hunt challenge). The class will observe nature by exploring, taking notes and sketching in Nature Explorers Notebooks provided by the instructor. On day five, notes will be used to complete a nature scavenger hunt with prizes for all.
• Discover Magic (ages 8-12): 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 24-27, Pequot Lakes High School choir room and theater. Fee: $175.
Hudson, Master Magician of the Twin Cities Magic Academy, will teach students about the world of magic. Students will learn to read minds, make money appear out of nowhere and travel through time with a magic banana. Students will learn the eight basic effects that make up all magic tricks and the secrets to becoming magicians. Each lesson reveals important life skills to help build confidence and communication skills.
Each lesson comes with a custom magic prop, a "top secret" file folder and a secret word to unlock bonus videos online. A final show for friends and family will be Thursday, June 27.
• Basketball camp for boys and girls: Tuesday-Thursday, June 25-27, Pequot Lakes High School Athletic Center. Grades K-2 (2019-20 school year): 12:30-2 p.m.; fee, $30. Grades 3-4 (2019-20 school year): 12:30-2:30 p.m.; fee, $35.
Basic fundamental basketball skills such as ball-handling, dribbling, shooting and defense will be covered along with basic team skills. The goal is to teach participants the basics and have fun at the same time. Participants must wear gym shoes; a T-shirt and shorts are recommended. Camp T-shirts will be included.
Camp director is Coach Rich Spiczka along with current and former boys and girls players.
