An unprecedented 10 seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas from the Crosslake Community School's online high school program Sunday, June 3.
Those present, combined with three absent, made the school's biggest graduating class yet. Only two out of seven graduating students walked last year.
"I am grateful to the families and to the students who have trusted us to move your students into their next phase," Stacy Bender, director online programming, said in her address.
Also unique to this year's graduation were the fact that it was the last ceremony at the current school facility - as students will start next year in a new building - and that, being the fourth year of the online program, two graduates completed all four years of high school at Crosslake. Bender recognized Matthew Bonfig, of Merrifield, and Emily Mitchell, of Crosslake, who have attended Crosslake Community School from elementary school all the way through high school.

Bender then gave graduates a few words of advice and encouragement before sending them off.
"The impact that we are sending you out to make in the world is something we can get excited about. You are going to blaze trails that we can't do anymore, that we need you to do. And so, we're super proud of you. We want you to stay a part of our lives; we want you to keep us informed about what you do. ... We want you to know you're a part of our family, even if you didn't meet any of us until today," Bender said. "Today starts your future, and we are thrilled to have been a part of it."
