Central Lakes College

The Minnesota Resort and Campground Association awarded scholarships totaling $4,000 to five students for the 2017-18 school year, including Reese Benson, who will attend Central Lakes College. The recipients are children of MRCA resort/campground owners or have been closely affiliated with a member business and recommended by its owner.

Benson graduated from Brainerd High School and will attend CLC to study automotive technology, then automotive engineering. His father, Jim, is the operations manager at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, and Reese has worked at the resort for the last five years as well, doing everything from clearing tables to preparing rooms to helping with social events. This summer, he is pitching in at the property's golf course.

Reese said working for Grand View has taught him how to be part of a team, how to do high quality work in a timely manner and the importance of a good attitude. He's also enjoyed the opportunity to work with his brother, Blair, in prepping rooms, which has brought them closer.

"It showed me how well we can work together and enjoy each other's company, all while getting our job done," he added.
