Nearly 80 people turned out Thursday evening, June 15, to a town hall meeting Mayor Dave Nevin called to address certain topics and to gauge citizens’ opinions.

The hourlong forum was held at the Crosslake Ideal Lions pavilion at the community center to meet, greet and discuss topics that could have a community impact regarding taxes, neighborhoods and quality of life in Crosslake.

Nevin said he hoped such town hall forums could be held once a month.

All council members as well as most city hall staff members attended the forum.

Topics Nevin brought up included a sign at city hall, vacation rental issues, assessment policies for roads and sewer, and property the city could buy.

Regarding a sign for city hall, most in the crowd favored some kind of sign while a few indicated no sign was needed.

Several people voiced concerns about vacation rental homes near them and alleged violations occurring.

“This is good for the council to hear,” Nevin said.

That topic also came up at the council’s July regular meeting. Right of way vacations also was discussed at both the July meeting and the town hall meeting.

Assessment conversation focused on who should pay them - those who benefit most or everyone. Opinions varied.

While listed on the meeting notice, the police department future and respectful workplace were not addressed at the forum.
