Crosslake Community School received notification from the Minnesota Department of Education on Monday, Dec. 7, that the state extended its approved online learning provider status to include students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
This means that Crosslake Community School can serve students from the start of their schooling through graduation in a completely online model.
Crosslake Community School originally added an online high school, which opened in August 2014. This allowed students to attend the seat-based program for kindergarten to eighth grade and then transition to the online high school. As word spread around the state about the online program, demand for the online program in earlier grades increased.
The Minnesota Department of Education had previously approved the addition of grades 5-8 to the high school grades.
A key element that differentiates the Crosslake Community School online program from others around the state is the position of learning coach. Each student is assigned a learning coach whose main priority is to remove barriers from student learning and provide them with encouragement and support.

This role is used in other settings; however, CCS maintains a one coach to 40 students ratio, which means the coach can dedicate significant time to this role. Because of this, CCS has seen its course completion rates increase, and more students are successful because of this role.
