DULUTH—One man is dead and police are looking for a suspect after an early-morning shooting Saturday, Sept. 1, in downtown Duluth.

Duluth police responded to the 100 block of West First Street at 12:55 a.m. to a report of a shooting. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound. The 31-year-old man was taken to a Duluth hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting does not appear to be random and the parties appear to be known to each other, police said.

Travis Busch, 35, who lives near where the shooting took place and is originally from Texas, said he was watching TV when he heard the gunshot.

"I knew it was a gunshot because I'm familiar with guns," he said. "As soon as I heard it, I called 911 and went to my window."

Busch, who has lived in Duluth for eight years, said he saw the man across the street from his apartment lying on the ground.

"There was a group of people surrounding him trying to resuscitate him from what it looked like," he said.

According to police, there were no suspects in custody late Saturday, but the investigation has identified a person of interest.

The victim's name was being withheld at this time pending family notification.
