A community meeting about the Fairview Township portion of the Gull Lake Trail will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Boathouse Event Center, 9820 Birch Bay Dr. S.W., Nisswa.

Karl Sam, executive director of the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation, will give a brief presentation about the partnership between Fairview Township and BLACF, which offers a way for people to donate money or appreciated assets to the trail project. Donations are tax deductible.

The Fairview Township Board of Supervisors approved plans last winter to move forward with designing and constructing the Gull Lake Trail Phase 3 in Fairview Township, which will run along County State Aid Highway 77 and connect the trails in East Gull Lake to the trail currently being built in Lake Shore.

When the 7.8-mile trail is complete, there will be a 10-foot wide paved place to walk, bike, run and Rollerblade.

The trail is estimated to be completed in 2022.

The total estimated cost is $1,717,900. The township is contributing funds toward the planning, design and construction. An application for the first of three phases of construction costs has been submitted to the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks & Trails Commission for Legacy funds. Fairview Township received $180,000 for design and engineering of all three phases of the project from Cass County Fund 73.

Madden's on Gull Lake has committed to match all donations collected in December, up to $5,000.
