A 35-year-old Breezy Point man was arrested in connection with an assault involving a knife Sunday, Oct. 27, in downtown Brainerd.

The Brainerd Police Department was called at about 10:20 p.m. to investigate a report of an assault involving a knife that had just occurred on the 300 block of South Seventh Street in Brainerd.

Responding officers met with a 27-year-old Brainerd man who was suffering from a laceration to his left index finger, police reported. The victim stated he was walking near the intersection of Laurel and South Seventh streets when he was approached by a man who had a knife and told him to “give me your money.” The victim was somewhat familiar with the suspect, refused to give the suspect money and attempted to disarm the suspect, police reported. When the victim tried to take the knife from the suspect, he suffered the laceration to his finger. The suspect then fled on foot. The victim then went to O’Neary’s Pub for help.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center for treatment to the laceration and was later discharged.

Officers were able to identify the suspect from a partial name given by the victim as a 35-year-old man who was located at his residence in Breezy Point. The suspect was taken into custody without incident at about 11:36 p.m.
