The Backus American Legion's annual adult Halloween Party will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, featuring costume contest prizes, potluck hors d'oeuvres, free cash and customer drawings and the announcement of the winner with the best guess on the weight of the largest ever Great Pumpkin.

Hors d'oeuvres will be served from 8 p.m. until gone, followed at 9 p.m. by a free drawing for customer and cash prizes and the awarding of a $20 club certificate for the winner of the weight guessing contest featuring "Captain Jack," the giant pumpkin. The pumpkin was donated by grower Adam Johnson of Centra Sota Coop in Santiago and is on display in the Legion foyer. The winner need not be present.

The costume contest will follow with the largest first-place prize the post has ever awarded, $100 cash. Second place will receive a $50 club bar/food certificate and a $10 Fresh Start Meat Market certificate. Third place will get a $25 club certificate and $10 Fresh Start Meat Market certificate.

Those attending are asked to consider a donation to area food shelves, but it is not required.
