The Pequot Lakes Woman's Club will hold its third annual arts exhibit on Thursday, Sept. 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at our library. Refreshments will be served.

Featured will be Shirley Gorg with photography, Karen Bye with leatherwork, Suzanne Leagjeld with oil and acrylic printings, and Ann Hutchings with Finnish linens.

Afghan raffle

Please come in to see the beautiful blue afghan hand-knit and donated by our own volunteer, Pat Wiggins. It will be on display here until Sept. 14, at which time we will pick the name of the winner from our special jar. Tickets for the raffle are only $2 each or three for $5. It's not too late to buy a chance or three.

Library is recipient of grant

We have just received a wonderful, unexpected grant donation from the Lakes Area Medical Development Association (LAMDA), a component fund of the Initiative Foundation.

This grant is greatly appreciated and will be used to ensure the continuation of the library.

Thank you, volunteers!

As always, thanks to each one of our volunteers. We wouldn't be here without you.

Special thanks this month to Terri Grimes and her helpers for planning and implementing the annual Kids' Summer Reading Program. What a great success it was with kids from preschool through sixth grade reading books about heroes.

As well as each child reading 12 books, there were several programs that the kids could attend. It helped keep the kids up to date on their reading abilities and made the library a fun place to be.

Quote for the month

"She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live." - Annie Dillard, The Living
